With the birth of a new child, many parents and grandparents start a college fund. It's the dream of most parents to send their children off to college to get a good education that will help them have a prosperous and happy life. But, in recent years, providing their child with a college education has became a literal nightmare for some parents.

More and more school and university shootings have ripped through the headlines and the hearts of America! And, in many of these cases, some injuries and deaths might have been prevented if students were aware of the immediate danger. While the solution to preventing these incidences completely has yet to be found, quicker alerts to both students and authorities may help to save lives and prevent injuries.

For decades, ADT Security Systems has been leaders in the latest technologies in protection. Individuals, business owners and even governments worldwide have put their trust and their safety in the hands of ADT. And, once again ADT has seen a security need and developed an amazing system, the Select Link notification system.

Select Link is a web based system that will alert literally thousands of people to any message within minutes. It can communicate through numerous ways including through emails, cell phones, telephones, pagers and even fax machines. And, not only will it alert students and employees to impending danger, the system can also notify police, fire and emergency providers.

Select Link is an invaluable tool during emergencies such as threats, fire and the presence of anyone that is dangerous or suspicious. If your business deals with dangerous chemicals, Select Link can be used to notify employees of chemical spills or accidents. And, you can use the program to alert anyone of severe weather conditions such as storms and tornadoes.

Not only can Select Link warn users of impending or immediate danger, it can be used for any type of message that you need relayed. It will provide you with the convenience of being able to send messages of school closings, special events, unexpected company meetings or any other type of daily memo.

Messages are added from either a telephone or an internet connected computer. A toll free number can be used to contact a ADT Select Link representative when computer access is blocked. Representatives are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and they will compose the message for you and make sure that everyone on your list receives the notification.

Busy signals and no answers aren't even a problem with Select Link, the system will continue to dial the number repeatedly until someone receives the message. Every contact gets the same message either in voice or text and the service is available in ten different languages. Each message sent through Select Link is automatically recorded and verified.

ADT has detailed information on their website, ADT.com about their Select Link security program. Anyone can use Select Link, you don't need to have a dedicated server and you don't even have to install any software. Select Link pricing includes unlimited messaging and the program has both two-way polling and conference call capabilities.

"During an emergency, information can help to save lives, reduce injuries and limit property damage," ADT's public safety adviser Partick Fiel said. "The addition of timely, accurate information from ADT Select Link can significantly expand the abilities of authorities during a crisis situation."

Security World News reported that South Carolina's Furman University has became one of the first to implement the Select Link notification system. Furman is the oldest and largest privately ran institution in South Carolina. The 800 acre campus located just outside of the city of Greenville, has yearly attendances of over 2,600 students and this year, 98% have already registered for the notifications.

Along with emergency alerts, Select Link can relay routine notifications to students of school closings, weather reports and other events. And, even parents can be notified of both routine messages and emergency alerts as well. With the implementation of Select Link, Furman University has became a leader in campus security.

On August 14, 2008, President Bush signed a new legislation into law that requires all universities and colleges to "immediately notify" all students and staff members in the event of a campus emergency. The new law also requires that all educational institutions publicize and test their evacuation and emergency procedures on a yearly basis.
